Counseling debt consolidation is another form of debt relief. If you work with a government approved credit counseling company and if there is no new loan amount involved then you will not be required to pay any fees.
 
Rather these nonprofit debt consolidation companies work for you in an exciting ways, often helping you to get out of debt within a few months or years time, depending on your current debt situation. You can also use this method to consolidate your student debt too.

Here, the debt consolidation counselor will contact the lenders you have and find out from them what amount of monthly payment they will accept from you. They will help get your interest rate lowered, or frozen and get you into a repayment plan.
Then, when you make your monthly payment, they will send out portions of it to each of your lenders as per agreements.
Usually your repayments will be made through these nonprofit debt consolidation companies.

These debt consolidation program do not involve any loan, though you will still owe your current lenders. But when you work with these counselors, they stop creditors from harassing you and they help you get out of debt faster by reducing the amount of interest you have to pay.

The only downside to this type of relief program is that it negatively effects your credit history for some time.
